What are Fertilpots?

Fertilpots are biodegradable wood fiber pots composed primarily of Spruce (Picea Abies) fibers manufactured without the use of glues or binders. Fertilpot is OMRI listed and USDA Bio preferred.

These are not peat pots!

Fertilpots are truly biodegradable and intended to be planted directly in the ground or the next larger container. Unlike rice-hull pots, or starch-based polymers and ‘biodegradable’ plastics, Fertilpots do not require a composting situation to degrade.

Because water, air, and roots will penetrate the walls of the fertilpot so easily, there is no need for drainage holes. The natural root structure that develops helps to ensure a successful transplant.

No other container, be it biodegradable, compostable, or plastic, allows for a more natural development of plant root structures.

Where Can I Use Fertilpots?

Fertilpot is an excellent choice for transplants, hydroponics, and retail sales.  Fertilpot has proven very successful in the production of vegetables, grafted wine grapes, forestry stock, as well as a range of annual and perennial crops.  Consider Fertilpot for native plants that can be sensitive to transplant shock. Because the plant is never removed from the Fertilpot, there is never any transplant shock.

Fertilpot is an eco-friendly, plantable and biodegradable pot that is manufactured by Fertil SAS in eastern France.  Fertilpot is made primarily with sustainably-harvested Spruce trees from tree thinning operations in the forests surrounding their factory.   The Vosges region has a long history of good stewardship of the land, producing sustainably-grown forestry products for more than 150 years.  The electric power used to manufacture Fertilpot is produced from zero emissions hydroelectric stations located on the river next to the facility.
